FREE GUIDE: 4 Tricks To Find Your Local Customers On Instagram

When I talk to my local business friends and clients - they struggle with two main obstacles on social media.

(1) You don't have all the time to do all the things social media requires you to do (and keep up with)

(2) When you do put in the time to create content for social media, you feel like no one is seeing your stuff. Reach is low and engagement is even lower.

Can you relate?

The good news is sharing other people's content can help you with both of these obstacles - time and reach.

1- Sharing saves you time

First, it saves you time. My biggest complaint I hear from local business owners is they don’t have time to create content.

Sharing other people’s relevant content is a way to fill your editorial calendar so that you’re not constantly on a hamster wheel of content creation.

Filling in with other people’s content gives you more content to share consistently. And Facebook likes consistency!

With the Facebook algorithm, posting frequency is actually a ranking signal that can affect how high up in the newsfeed your posts are placed.

2- You give value to your customers

Sharing other people's content is another way to serve and show up for your audience.

You’re educating them, you’re inspiring them, and you’re entertaining them with other people’s content.

They see your name attached to it, so they’re connecting that value back to you. You’re becoming their go-to in your industry. You’re establishing yourself as a thought leader or expert by sharing.

Ask yourself: What questions does your audience have that you can help them answer? What are they struggling with? How can you find content that’s already created to super serve them?

3- Sharing is an easy way to boost engagement

Finally, one of the most important reasons to share other people’s engaging content is it increases engagement on your posts. This tells Facebook’s algorithm that people like your content. Some of my most engaging content on Facebook is videos, gifs, memes or articles that I did not create. I shared them from another source.

I know my audience well, and I know what will resonate with them. By sharing these pieces of content, they like it, comment on it, click on it and even share it on their feeds.

All this interaction tells Facebook that my followers LIKE my content, so Facebook will continue to show them more of my content.

And that means showing them MORE of my content when I create my own content or when I’m making offers or trying to promote to my audience!

So if you’re looking to save time on creating content, then sharing other people's content is an easy thing to work into your content calendar.

Fill in the gaps of your own content with other people’s engaging content. And if you struggle with reach, test out different types of posts seeing what resonates with your customers -- maybe it’s videos, gifs, or memes.

Share different types of content and test it. You’ll start noticing what people interact with more, then you want to repeat that.
